I do not even know where to start..should I start with the fact we ran 15 miles around Rio today? Or that we saw the most beautiful beaches in Rio? That we ran around a beautiful lake here in the city? Or that we stopped and spontaneously took a helicopter ride to see the sights from the sky? I shall try and be succinct!
The weather report called for more rain today.upon awaking early I flew open the curtain of our suite and lo and behold, it was a beautiful sunny morning! This made me smile...Another delicious breakfast..then we donned our running gear, loaded up with water and nutrition and we were out the door! We were in search of the Local lake in Rio. After getting somewhat lost, we managed to find the running/biking path around Rodrigo de Freitas, Lagoa Lake. The surrounding beauty was so pretty! I had to stop and take pictures of course!
Now 9 minutes may sound short but we managed to see Sugar Loaf, Corcovado Mountain-where Christ the Redeemer is and the 2 famous beaches; Copacobana and Ipenema.
Looking out through the space below my feet in the heli
Ipenema Beach
Interesting sand castles along the way..
We finally ran onto the Copa Beach again. I was starting to finally get tired. We were so high from the heli ride. I had my mouth open the whole ride saying oh...my...gosh...beautiful!! It was probably one of the best things H and I have ever experienced while traveling!
Finally, we made it back to our hotel. We ended up running about 14 miles in all we figured. We saw more in that run and the helicopter ride than we would have seen touring in 3 days!
Another great meal, this time in a Churrascaria, a Brazilian Steakhouse where we had all the beef you could ever want!! We figured after the half marathon distance around Rio, we could eat anything we wanted! Another end to a wonderful day. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings..:)
A week from today we will be back in ABQ. Hard to imagine that yet..
