Belated Anniversary dinner..

New Year's Day came and went without any fanfare. We lazed around and did not get out of our jammies all day yesterday. Finally, when nightfall came and we realized we had no food, we ventured out into the dark holiday night to search for some grub. Or shall I say I hobbled out. Seems my legs were no where near recovered from the race..not as young as I use to be!  We came upon the same restaurant that was going to cost $120 US a piece the night before. It had miraculously gone back to normal prices overnight so we had a leisurely dinner there. Everything is leisurely here by the way, if I have not mentioned this before. Even the people walking down the sidewalk are going a snail's pace. Which doesn't really bode well with my hurry up and lets get to our destination attitude well. I am learning to go with the flow, which is going about as well as my Spanish these days. It is hard to believe H and I spent so many hours on Rosetta Stone trying to get even some language basics. We even took a couple of lessons, which were great. For whatever reason, nothing seemed to have stuck. I may as well spent the time doing nothing and buying the translation books we ended up using? I digress..

This morning I woke up with a sugar hangover. Seemed all the desserts I have consumed have caught up with me. Let's just say, I think I have had my fill of desserts and bread before every meal..oh wait! After tonight I mean..Hartley and I went out for our real anniversary 5 star meal tonight since the restaurant we wanted to dine at was closed on Saturday and Sunday. But first:

Earlier in the day, we drug ourselves out of our cocoon to the gym. I had to push myself pretty hard to get to spin class at noon. The previous instructor was gone on vacation for the rest of our visit. So another very cute young cyclist took his place and rocked us through a very intense workout! I understood maybe 10 words the whole hour but the intent was extremely easy to read. Seems most spin instructors have the same tone of voice when it comes to being motivating and strongly suggestive that we needed to PUSH! And push we did! We were standing about 45 minutes of the hour class. The fan wasn't working, I could very much feel the increased temp outside as I sweated buckets. Then we went in to do the follow up "abs" class that followed. We were able to communicate to the teacher somehow that we loved his class. Fantastic South American spin instructor! See him Wed again I guess..

This was followed by another 45 min. of weight training. Depsite all of the running around BA, training and the race I had done, I still managed to gain another kilogram this week! Those desserts in are not equaling the calories out with exercise I guess!

I decided I needed my weekly massage after such a hard race..:) This I enjoyed while H took the laundry to the laundry service and went grocery shopping. A fair trade wouldn't you say? I am such a lucky girl sometimes..Good thing he loves grocery shopping so much!

This takes me to our wonderful dinner H and I had at "La Bourgogne" restaurant at the upscale Alvear Palace hotel tonight.

Here we celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary. A couple of days late! We got to dine at the "finest restaurant in South America" according to Frommers. A happy couple we were to arrive here!
We had peeked in a few days ago and were impressed and it certainly did not disappoint..a feast fit for a king which began with a starter, bread, aperitif and more bread! The waiter was kind enough to tell us that one meal was enough for two-he must have read our minds. We really did not want to over eat, even in this delicious place. As it were, the steak that came out was very thick, huge and was certainly enough for two! After we stuffed ourselves with entres and the main course, then the dessert menu appeared but not until after the "digestif" was served. We decided to drink some tea while we discussed whether to continue stuffing, when the "petit fours" came out, a plate full of bite sized sweets. Then the "special dessert" came out for our anniversary treat, a huge strawberry shortcake and cookie..wow we were glad we did not order dessert!!
Then to top it off and since I guess they were worried we would get hungry early in the morning, they gave us a tiny bag of breakfast muffins tied up in a bow as we left. Wow, can I say that this restaurant had 5 stars written all over it. Not just all the food, but the treatment of the servers and staff, the luxurious and unique dinner. Even the bathrooms were first class.
We left very happy customers and we remarked in the taxi this would be an anniversary to remember!! We are two very blessed, lucky people to have each other all these years and grateful to be healthy enough to travel like this, be treated this way and all the friends and family have to love at home!

Now I really really am going to eat healthy for a few days. At least until they serve me the next before dinner bread basket in a couple of days!!

Good night all..
What a great  start to the new year!
